Trying to decide what suspension system to get. My 84 has some aftermarket thing in there, but it’s is so old and worn I couldn’t tell you what it is. I just know it sucks and my wheels keep getting pulled out of alignment with our pothole friendly Colorado roads (17 inch rims with low profiles doesn’t help, but it’s what I have) I’d like to know what you guys went with. What worked, what didn’t, what was comfortable and so on. I’m looking for something with a good ride, but something that will last and give good performance.
------------------ This signature adds .5 bhp. When in doubt, gun it.
Monroe Sensa-Trac give a good semi firm, controllable, well handling ride on stock suspensions with fresh bushings, joints and tie rods.. They should easily last 50,000 mi. of everyday use. Have used the on a 86SE and 87GT with no problems. Lifetime warranty from Monroe. Cost is reasonable.
I have the Monroe Sensatracks on the front and KYB struts on the back. I had KYB gas adjust shocks on the front but they were to hard for riding for me.
Get the stuff while you can.. maybe they still have what you're looking for.. I have their kit for an 88.. very pleased.. but when I bought, they offered koni as well.. sad to read that they are closing
Seems to me their spectrum and another is a replacement for sensa-trac. Probably go with those, Carid.com has those for even cheaper than the Fiero store. And I’ll probably do the kyb rear strut back age from the store though, everyone seems pretty pleased with those.

I was disappointed about the loss of Sensa-Tracs for Fieros as I had them on my third gen Camaro with good results. I did, however, opt for the OEM spectrum ones recently on my Fiero and seem to be doing pretty good so far.
I don’t recall what I paid for the Sensa-Tracs but they are reasonable in the shock world. As said they often have sales, mostly giving 4 for the price of three. Look at Rock Autos rebate pages to see if there is currently a sale. At Rock also use the coupon code during check out to save an extra 5%. Helps with shipping. A code is almost always posted here on PFF. The same sales also apply to purchasing locally at Auto Zone or the like.
I haven’t tried the new “top of the line” Monroe shocks yet, but I’m sure they’re ok. Kinda like Wagner giving up the old Trermo-Quite line of brake pads. Pretty much just buy their best line and you’ll be ok. Koni, KYB and other shocks are also good. The Fiero Store can help you with those as well.
Shocks and struts, like everything else, are getting kinda pricey these days for what they are and the cost to manufacture them.
