I have researched through the forum on Ecotech swaps and they all seem to assume a lot of knowledge I may not have.
I currently have a stock 85 SE with 2.5L . Local yard will sell me the engine, manual transmission, wire harness and ECM for $500.00.

If I take everything, including instrument panel, dash, and other controls from the car, would everything electrical work without needing to reprogram the ECM. I have high confidence of being able to fabricate engine mounts but I am shaky on computer changes still.

Also, will the drive shafts fit or do I need to take the entire drive train?

Get the steering collum with the keys in it. Also get the fuel pump and affilliated wiring harness. Get the entire car wiring harness including ECM and BCM (body control module) if you can and cut off nothing. I pared mine down too soon and then I realized that I had gotten rid of stuff that I would have used later. Once you have everything, it becomes plug and play. All the connectors are different so you can't get them connected wrong. Having the ignition and keys makes it easy to get the swap running initially and then tune the VATS out later. Eventually I incorporated the charcoal cannister from a 2004 cavalier to get rid of an engine code that the mating of fiero cannister and cavalier engine was causing. Fiero M/T axles fit right in to the F23 that your ecotec comes with.

Thank you,

Maybe I should just take the whole dash. Is the BCM and PCM both in the engine bay?
Should go ahead and take the charcoal canister while I'm at it.

Do you think the entire steering column could be adapted easily?

Does anyone make a kit for engine mounts?

Roger Thelin. He is in the mall. Also makes shifter kits. The ECM is in the engine bay and the BCM is under the dash I think. The ECM has a finned aluminum heat sink on it . The BCM is a small square plastic box with lots of wires going to it. I do not know about the steering collum. I just cut the ignition assembly out of it and had it in the Fiero centre consule until I programmed out the vats. I use to turn the fiero key to on then start the engine with the cavalier ignition. Awkward but worked fine.

I forgot to add that in 2007 they went to drive by wire, so you need the gas pedal assembly and wiring harnes for that too.

Thank you for the help. I am going to be delayed on a swap due to finances but this is definitely the direction I want to go. I love the sound of a V8 but I find the appeal of a newer 4 cylinder irresistible.

I'm going to concentrate on the interior until spring. Next project will be custom center console.
