I need to get into the rear compartment trunk / engine lid on a junkyard car. Obviously no key or power so how can I force my way in without damaging the tail lights? Not worried about damaging the lid itself.

You could drill the lock, or use a hammer and a good screw driver with hex portion on the shank. Smack the screw driver as deep into the lock as possible and then use a large crecent wrench to turn the lock. You will need to either shear off the tumblers or strip out the lock tab of the housing so it will take some effort.

Don't let this get around, but basically what Rvsl-Rider said; Take a screwdriver- one with a hex at the base of the handle- drive it into the lock relatively deep(With the wrench that fits the hex already on it), then use the wrench to twist it...I have to report that this has worked like a charm on 3, but then 2 it would not work....

If you can get a portable battery (Like an emergency start type) and hook it to the trunk release wires you could get the trunk open.....but that works only if the Fiero in question had the trunk popper....I believe it was optional on base cars...?

Been there, done that... when I locked my keys in the trunk while I was a hundred miles from home.

I was about to go zooming out of the house on an errand...So I rushed and got the names confused! Not as bad as forgetting two separate women's names on two separate dates.....Yarrrgggggg........

And my lock simply refused to work anymore, so I actually had to do it to mine.....Luckily, I am in process of molding a spoiler onto the trunk lid, so damage to the lid would not have mattered, and the taillights are already damaged around the lock- planning to do something different there...don't know what.....Although, I am fascinated with an "Infinite mirror" led tail light system......

Back from Pick n Pull with positive results on the lock, just no major treasures to be had. I was actually given a heads up on the car before I went out there and was told the trunk lid was still locked. That's when I asked for the help.

Upon arrival I inserted a big flat blade screw driver into the key slot and went at it with a deadblow hammer until it got way deep inside the lock. A simple twist and I was in.

Anyway, the car was already pretty well thrashed before it got there and unfortunately (for me) the GT I was told about turned out to be a '86 SE and the tail lights were already both cracked, so I left them. Still, it's nice to know how to deal with that in the future. I did pick up a sub-woofer system dome light (brown) and the sub woofer amplifier. I'm hoping the amp is good since I have two complete systems but neither amp works.

Thanks for all the good advice.

p.s. Does anyone know of a source for repairing the sub-woofer amps?

Darn, I was wishing that someone had ditched the getaway car and there was a pile of cash in there.
What does the amp need? Did you attempt to operate it?

That's so funny. I was having visions of just what goodies might be in there at the moment of opening. Unfortunately, nothing but a bunch of old lug nuts and other random scraps and bits of junk.

I don't know about this new amp. I haven't tried it out yet. I have two others that I removed from junkyard cars previously. I don't remember the problems specifically, other than they just gave off a some random humm or crackle. I did test them in a complete system with a known good speaker so pretty sure it's the amps that are the problem.
