For you guys who have run a transmission cooler, where did you route the lines around the radiator.
It seems pretty close quarters between the side of the radiator and the metal framework.
I`m going to tap into the stock lines and use SS braided hose with AN fittings into an 11" x 4-1/2" cooler.
The cooler I will mount even with the bottom part of the condensor but it looks like the lines pretty much need to go around the sides
because the bottom dam is in the way and I don`t think you can really run them over the top.

I have mine in the rear, where the cat used to sit. Bypass the radiator altogether ( it's a large cooler).

Well, I`m thinking of running through the radiator as well to help it reach operating temp faster so I was going to put it up front.

I've thought about mounting the cooler there but didn't think that that the cooler would get enough cold air flow to work efficiently. If your trans fluid goes much above 180-190*F, I believe that transmission life will be affected. Have you ever measured your trans fluid temperatures? The OP can mount the cooler up front but flexible transmission oil cooler line is needed to get around the obstacles there.

I actually did just that Dennis.
I used AN fittings with stainless braided to run from the stock lines which I cut before where they bend to go up to the radiator.
Then installed 5/16 compression to -6 adapters to run to the -6 fitting on the transmission cooler. I just bi-passed the radiator.

I was not sure myself, so I set it up to be able to read the trans temp via the stock coolant gauge ( via a relay and switch), I watch the temps often, and with the cooler I have they seldoom get above 180. Haven't been in the hot Vegas summer yet, so will still need to stress it.

If you run through a cooler, and then through the radiator as normally suggested, then the trans temps will be about the same as engine temps, so somewhere north of 200 ( 235 in a stock engine). Too hot for me.

This is definitely a debatable point. My setup uses the Champion 3 row radiator and the internal cooler but I run a 180* thermostat. Trnas fluid temps stay in the 180-190* range in 90* summer weather. I would say the long oil cooler lines also add some cooling effect. The only question that I have is that if you mount the trans cooler where the front exhaust once was, will it receive enough air flow to do the job correctly.? I would say size also has a lot to do with the cooling efficiency. The rear mount trans cooler is very desirable for the next swap that I am working on, just not sure that it will work as well as the front mount. Your tests show very encouraging results. Keep us posted as the summer approaches.

Anyone have the correct fittings that thread into the transmission itself? I ordered the dorman brand ones from rockauto for a 2000 GTP which was my drop out and one seems right the other is not? Also is there a generic metal tube fitting that can snap into these that has a barbed end you can attach rubber hose to or what is everyone doing for that? I'm mounting my cooler on the front cradle so I'm not using the fiero OEM metal lines at all.

Triple Edge Performance has fittings that allow you to do away with the snap in ones and go to the older style screw-in.
