I have been trying different LEDs, trying to get my dash to brighten up.
I tried the LED to the left in this picture.. it did not help.
I tried the LED to the right in this picture.. and it works much better.
The speedo and tach are much better, easy to read at night. The center items (gas temp) are still hard to read, probably hopeless.
They dim up and down with a brightness similar to the radio HVAC.
I tried to take pics of the instruments in the dark, but they come out terrible.

So you will need 6 of these.. do not put them in the center group of indicators, as they have different colors, and need an incandescent.
The paint on the back of the panel is bright orange.. I chose red LEDs, as they are the closest to the orange, could not find orange LEDs in this style.
They must be 12V, and are described as a T10 base. The sockets that came with them were tight, so I kept the grey ones that were OEM.
They have polarity.. do this with power on. If an LED does not work, switch it around, and it will then.
Heerza link to the page that I bought them off of..

Well, I suppose that I am proposing a simple fix that anyone can order, for less than $8, and the instruments are retained with no sign of switching things out. For the purist (or cheapskate).
And your woman will be so impressed with the upgrade.

Finding LED that works isn't only issue.
6 194 bulbs are bright normally.
Dimmer full on and still have Dim light then something is wrong.

worse, bright dash and others in the cabin is light pollution and negatively affects driving at night, more so when outside of city downtown w/o streetlight etc.
I never have dashes w/ lights full on for this reason. Many New cars have lights you can't dim enough or worse have OE or Aftermarket LCD displays you can't dim or turn off.

From another hobby of mine - most colors and varying brightness and styles available:

http://www.pinballbulbs.com/pinball-leds

http://www.cometpinball.com/category-s/1841.htm

They have orange, but orange tends to not be as bright as the other colors. Here is a helpful list of the colors listed from brightest to dimmest and alternative colors to use instead. Myself, I have used cool whites in the cluster - red makes it way to red for my tastes. http://www.pinballbulbs.com...talls/gi-kit-install

Ogre, I have heard your position before.. but honestly, if I cannot see the numbers at night (my vision is fine), and now I can.. isn't that a fix?
And for light pollution, if they are bright enough, and I can now dim them (including radio and HVAC) then I have control over that situation.
Really though, I can just see them clear enough to know exactly what the numbers are. So I would not say that I have them too bright.
Wish I could get a good set of pictures of this.. but at night, it is really hard to get useful ones.
"Honest officer, I have no idea how fast I was going. And it's GM's fault!"
And I am also a Pinball fanatic, so I did have a starting point on these style bulbs. They are 6V.. but have the same base (a 555 does).

I buy blue LED bulbs (it's more of a bluish-white) for interior lighting and for over the rear license plate. Can't beat the price Here... 20 bulbs for less than six bucks, with free shipping!
