Hi, picked up an 88 formula a little while back and I'm working on getting everything the way I'd like for using the car as a DD. I'm trying to replace the radio with the unit I bought for my last car at the moment. Trouble is I can't figure out how to pull it out. Got everything unbolted that I could see but it feels like it's stuck. Any help getting this thing out would be great, thanks!

Welcome to PFF! The wiring harness and antenna wire should be all that's left to disconnect. Check behind the radio, wiggle the wires to make sure they're free; the radio should push out from behind...

Pull hard. If I remember, it has a rubber press-in bracket at the rear. It will pop out when pulled hard enough.

The only thing that may be holding it is a rubber cone-shaped support on the back of the radio. It partially inserts into a round hole in a metal bracket. The rubber might have bonded to the metal over the years. It's purpose is to help support the rear weight of the radio to keep it from vibrating and doing damage to the plastic skeleton.

If you reach around behind the surround, you might be able to feel it with your finger tips. Removing the surround will give you a little clearer view and maybe a little better access to the rear.

Like they have posted. PULL It out. Thats all. Its held in the back with a rubber and plastic "grommet" Oh yea, WELCOME to the Fiero Madness fellow VA member. If you ever make it to the 757 we have a club w/ approx a dozen or so members. 7-8 of us are pretty active. Maybe we'll see you at a show in Richmond or at VMP.

In my 85 GT there is a metal thing with a threaded hole. It's pretty substantial. It's a little to the left.

Thanks everyone! Turns out I did have to just pull hard. The little rubber bit in the back had been worn away in the middle hooking itself on there pretty good. Had to put all my weight into it to get it out. Got the new radio all wired up and sitting in there. Nothing pretty for sure, but it'll work for now!
