You jumper pins A and B on the ALDL connector to read trouble codes. The Fiero Store sells a piece of sheet metal to do the trick. I just used a piece of #12 copper wire in the
past.

For some reason I had a burnt out fuse from the 2002 Tahoe in the Fiero. Turns out the spacing is almost exact. I tried a fresh fuse and it worked nicely. There are 3 sizes of blade fuses (physical size) that you can buy (well maybe 4 if you include the ginormous ones). The smallest size that is used on more recent GM vehicles is the one I found that works to jumper the pins. This is the next size smaller than what is in our Fieros.

Now if I can just figure out why the idle is 1500 to 2000 but no codes, I'll be good. For a while the EGR gasket was leaking right at the EGR valve. A little red Permatex fixed that but now it is idling high again :-( I was surprised that starter spray was a good way to see where the vacuum leak was.

Swapping the TPS off the white Fiero is the next step.

This is the high-priced piece of hardware (with minor modification) that I use.

Yes, I used that particular tool in the past as well. The nice thing about the really little fuses is that they are insulated and hold in nicely. I always worry about a paper clip shorting out to the chassis (but since that is what you are doing anyway not much of a problem.) The fuses stay put without danger of falling out.

Found my high idle. The flange on the new EGR tube seems to be slightly warped and leaks just a smidge of air. Blasted the EGR valve end with Starter fluid while home at lunch today and got the normal "slows the engine" response. I have the flexible armored tube from the Fiero Store. Permatex worked for a little while but it is leaking again. Scratching my head on this one!

The solution is to remove the tube and file the flange flat. There's no point just trying to goop up the gap!

Be careful...
Many ALDL have been damage by people jamming too big of a jumper.
That can cause problems when you use a ECM scanner.

Paper clip works but small size to easy fit the terminals.

ALDL can be installed two ways...
See my Cave, ALDL/ALCL

Lisle Wire Terminal Tool 14900 has a jumper and Weather-Pack etc terminal tools. (Does not have tools to work on Metri Pack ends)
