I'm about to replace my oil pan, and based on all the info I can find on what's necessary I'd like to check to see if anybody can offer any additional info or experience.
The procedure as I understand it:
- remove bolt from one end of dogbone - remove shield from bottom of torque converter - remove starter (keep any shims and reinstall with the same number) - remove some of the exhaust support springs - remove bolts to lower pulley side engine mount - jack engine up a bit - reach through passenger wheel well to loosen the 88 wrap around mount bracket and remove the bracket (can all the bolts be reached this way?) - wedge a 2X4 between the bottom of the harmonic balancer and the frame rail to support the engine - remove all bolts to oil pan, with 1/4" drive tools and extensions/universals expected on the transmission side of the pan
I notice the bottom of the oil pan where the pickup sits has 4 bumps in it that look like they are designed to hold the pickup off the bottom of the pan. Based on that it appears that there's really nothing too special to do to get the pickup in the right place when installing the new pan.
Anything I'm missing, or that would make the job easier? Things like jack stand placement (I'm planning on 2 at the exhaust outlet end of the engine cradle), do belts have to come off? AC compressor? etc.
