I'm parting out a bunch of fiero's and I pulled a 4 speed muncie out of a 86 GT V6 car. I can tell its a 84 transmission because the 84s had a different case but not sure if its a my8 or a m19. Any way to easily identify?

The case is cast 14066447 GM CFM-7

and has a sticker that says 614DW M

Thanks, Mike

I used a wood stick as a transmission ID tool.

I inserted a piece of cedar shim into the differential carrier (tight fit). I then carved some clearance into the wood stick so it wouldn't rub on the axle seal.

Then, shift the trans into various gears and count the input : output turns. The wood stick just serves as a visual indicator.
