3mm (1/8") bead of GM 1052917 RTV sealant or equivalent. Has anybody used rubber instead?

Id put a skin of sealant on, just rub the gasket with fingers so there is some on both sides. Then install but only tighten to snug at first or even that small amount will ooze out some. After the sealer sets, then torque to spec. I use Permatex black or orange.

Black or orange would be RTV I believe. I was going to use Permatex High Tack Gasket Sealant. it gets very tacky quick. Fel-Pro Molded rubber gaskets state to install dry. would like to do a thin skin of sealant...I guess ill do the dry install and cross fingers

Yeah, if this is a Felpro dry seal gasket, you don't need anything and shouldn't use anything. A dab at seams in the block/covers make sense, but nothing more. I have never had a permadry (I assume that's what you've got) leak.

For sure of its permadry, blue with the ribs on it don't use any sealer.
