My trans in my 86 finally gave up the fight. Got locked in 3 - 4 only. I have a 4 speed from a 84 (smooth case and the FWD cable brackets). I know that the trans will fit but can I simply swap all the brackets from the 86 trans to the 84 trans including the slave cylinder and bracket. I noticed that there is a separate slave for 84s listed on TFS

You can just swap out the transmission if your 86 is a 4-speed. The reason for the different 84 slave was because they just used a different mount. Everything you have on the 86 will work on the 84 trans.

All right. I'm going in.
I will swap all brackets and use the '86 slave
I noticed that the arm is different also but it should not matter.

Thanks for the advice

You do know your 84 trans is probably a 4:10 ratio? It will be quick on acceleration but will be running some high rpm's at road speed. Probably in the neighborhood of 3500 rpm. MPG will be much less than with the old trans but it's sure fun to drive on twisty roads and getting away at green lights.
