I plan to install my engine oil cooler soon. I would like to know where you guys have installed yours? The car is a 86 GT with a SBC swap. The air cooler size is 13in x 5in
If you intend to keep it within the engine bay, I would probably try to see if you can utilize your stock trunk blower to assist in bringing in colder air to this oil cooler. But route it as far away from the exhaust manifolds/headers as you can. Probably not an easy task and you may wind up with an oil cooler that actually cooks the oil instead. I assume you already own the oil cooler, but I would have looked into the water-cooled version that stock 89 corvettes and some Trans ams with the L98 350 motor came with from the factory. It tees into the heater hoses and runs coolant through the oil filter sandwich adapter.
Has anyone used the transmission cooler in the radiator? Obviously you would have to have a stick shift car and install a radiator for an automatic....

just buy an aftermarket trany cooler, mount it in front of the radiator and run a couple of long, large the biggest you can get sections of brake line from the front to the back, using rubber or adapter ends to fit whatever the connections are.
Why make it any harder than you have to.

------------------ Technology is great when it works, and one big pain in the ass when it doesn't
The biggest problem with using the radiator's transmission cooler as your engine oil cooler is the distance you'll have to run the lines. You're going to lose some oil pressure, and some flow as well, because your oil pump has to pump the oil all the way up there and back. I wouldn't recommend it.
That said, I have an engine oil cooler mounted in the passenger side decklid grate, and it seems to be working pretty well. But then again, my engine is a 3.4 V6. A V8 may not have enough room (I'm not really sure). But a 13" long oil cooler may not fit in that area, anyway. The one I'm using is 7x10", and is a tight fit.

I have enough space to mount it under the driver side decklid grate, i might give it a try. If there is not enough air flow i could always install a small fan.
You might want to install a fan anyway. The decklid grates only get good airflow when the car is moving. When the car is standing still, heat builds up in the engine bay. If you use a thermal switch (similar to the fan switch for the radiator), you should be good to go.
I fitted and engine oil cooler to my SBC car, I positioned it under the left hand grate, keeps the oil lines short as that is right above where my oil filter is attached to the cradle, I did add a thermostatically controlled fan, all works well and gives an added safeguard on those hot ! michigan days, hopefully they come soon. I looked all over for a suitable place that had some airflow and was also away from potential road debris damage, and this location seemed the best.
