Hi guys,
I am replacing all my vacuum lines on my GT with the 2.8 V6 stock. I saw the replacement stainless lines for sale at $250 per set, but I am thinking I can fabricate some myself since I have tube bending equipment here. ($250 seems kind of steep to me).

Do any of you gurus know the diameters of the stock vacuum hoses on the stock V6 by chance and off the top of your heads? I was hoping you guys would know before I tear into it and measuring all of them. My plastic ones seem to leak like sieves, so I am making the effort to fabricate a set here. I will try to make some pictures to post in here too so you guys can see how it is moving along.. Is that something of interest to anyone to look at? The ones that I have seen look like the size of some common brake lines or so if I am not mistaken, and a couple of larger ones as well. I am also going to try to fabricate some rubber (high-temp silicone) connector joints as well since mine seem to all be turning into ashes from the heat (LOL). I would really appreciate it if you guys could pipe in here and help if possible, because it would sure save me a ton of work measuring and stuff. My goal is the have reliable solid metal tubing connected with reliable silicone connection joints out of frustration with leaks and malfunctioning 30 year old plastic tubing. My hope is to have polished lines with color coordinated connectors in the end. I bent some brake tubing for the old girl already to the wheels, and it would seen to work for the vacuum setup too if I can get the specs lined up..

I appreciate all you guys helping folks like me out here. I hope this works out well as I think it will ultimately.. This realize this might seem somewhat ornamental as in dressing up the engine a little I realize, but the leaks are really annoying to me as well. Let me know if you are interested in seeing this process so I know how much effort to put in making pictures or video of these to look at.. I am not a flashy kind of person, but I know I would like to see that process. I love watching you guys posting how to do stuff.. very inspiring to me at least.. :-)

Thanks guys!

I'll cut the price in half for you.....(special deal)

Unless you are a professional tube bender, I would buy Rodney's...(I did, and they work great). There are a LOT of bends and 2 diameters.

I have one of these I use for mostly brake lines, works well on thin regular steel tubing, now SS I haven't tried yet, but be aware, SS is much harder to bend right with simple benders like these.

I also clamp the bender in my bench vise before starting even on the thin regular steel steel lines. the thing is great for them but not so sure about SS.

Also SS ain't cheap to buy, it ain't like getting those pre fitted type straight lines and bending them. Not sure if you can even buy it in any way other than 50' rolls, last time I bought a 50' copper nickel rolls it was 50 bucks never bought the SS.

i have made my own and have bought a set from Rodney. if your only doing it 1 time just buy the set and be done with it. the tools and all the tubing to do it right was close to what Rodney charges.

Or even a better way, what I did, cost me under $10, (that's right under ten bucks)
Go to a hobby store, they have a display of tubing aluminum or brass, in all different sizes.
I got aluminum and bent it by hand, the tube benders would tend to kink it.
Very easy to do and very cheap.

I made a set years ago from two type of tubing I found at advance auto... Bent easy enough that I kinked multiple sets trying to get the bends right... then moving them around to get them to fit right after I got them under the intake. Never seemed to get it right...

So I got a Rodney set from the Mall and it just plugged right in. Probably wasted more time, money, stress when I didn't buy... Some things just shouldn't have wasted my time...

That said, I might still have tubing in the garage from the project. I just took my lines in and matched them to the closest size tube. They were the exact same size.
