85 GT 4 spd manual

I'm trying to chase down an annoying squeak in my clutch pedal area. I was originally thinking it was a pedal bushing, but it only makes the noise when the clutch is engaged, not disengaged. It actually sounds more like a loud chirp than a squeak. What should I be checking to isolate the problem?

I don't think it's necessarily unusual that the squeak would be worse when you're stepping on the clutch pedal as opposed to releasing it. On one of my Fieros, I had to take the clutch pedal assembly apart to lubricate the nylon bushings because of a squeak. PIA, but the situation was resolved. It's possible you could spray something in there that would help without disassembling everything.

It only chirps when I release the pedal, nothing when I step on it.

Well, in that case it's low muffler juice.

The banjo to the clutch pedal is steel on steel on the early Fiero's. Later Fiero's had a smaller pin on the clutch pedal and a black plastic bushing in the banjo. That is probably where the squeak is coming from. Take the banjo off the clutch pedal and put some grease on them.

Scott check the pedal and see if the steel "U" part is bent ,I've never seen a Fiero that did not have some amount of bend on that part of the clutch pedal. The misalignment will also make the pin bushing squeak.
