The old Honda 250 and 305 Scrambler motorcycles of the 60's used a baffle that looked similar to that. They could be removed for off-road use. I don't know if the SpinTech devices work the same, but they appear very similar. The Honda baffles were very effective in reducing the noise. In the case of the Hondas, the baffle was in the end of the pipe, held in by a single bolt. For the V6 Fiero, you would need 4 or you'd need to cut your pipe and install it upstream of the muffler.
I would think these are causing increased exhaust restriction though which equals less horsepower.
I have the magnaflow setup on my 3800sc (with a magnaflow bullet cat) and it sounds awesome, no rasp.

I ran this 3800 with a magnaflow for a bit. All 2.5 piping. It sounded like garbage.
I switched to the f body hooker muffler I originally had made with the insert. There was no discernable difference other than the car no longer sounds horrible.
Maybe mine sounds aweaome because it's the long magnaflow that 'just fits' in the stock location. I'm sure shorter mufflers will lead to that raspy sound.

Yeah I guess 3 HP isn't much.
Maybe it sounds "awesome" to you, but not necessarily to others. You also went through a lot of hassle and spent a decent amount of money to get it in there, if I remember correctly. And it is your car. So of course you're a little biased about it.
Of course you do. I'm just saying that maybe it doesn't solve the problem that solotwo is trying to solve.
You thought it appropriate to give a negative rating for that? (Maybe it wasn't you, but it seems I have another one, and this was the only thread at the top, that I'd replied in, so seems worthwhile to ask.)

Dont worry about it. I am just tired of the noise and daily almost getting a headache from it. Rating system. To me it is a bunch of crap. I have been on this forum since 2002. Never had any ratings until recently and generally I try to give good information and not be negative. But now days if some has his panties in a bunch they will give you a negative rating just because. I think I know where they came from. Like the old saying "what goes around comes around" It will come back and bite them.

I have a flowmaster 80 just fits in the space. Way to loud for a daily driver. PO made his own system. Unfortunately he made some tubing to long and it hangs way to low and way to close to the trunk. NOTE none of the exhaust is mounted in rubber! He made a bracket that he welded to the muffler then used some self taping bolts and screwed that in to the crossmember!

I need to quite the car down before I go deaf. LOL
Lower sound, of course. Less horsepower, yes. Another sound reduction approach is the exhaust cone but I have yet to use one. Its still a restriction in the exhaust flow. My 3" in/dual 2 1/2" out trunk friendly Spintech exhaust does the job and is the lowest 14" L muffler that I have tried but its not that soft sounding. My approach is to insulate the bottom of the deck lid and get some sound insulation placed on the inner fender well. With a short exhaust you just can't have it both ways but I would say that building a custom Y pipe and going around the engine would provide the lowest sounding performance exhaust system.
