Looking for the best way to attach The GT turbo sail panels with scoops so they dont fall off double sided tape I dont think will work because of the weight and scoops?? Thanks, Randy
I have mine in with double sided foam tape. It is kinda thick and very sticky. I bought the expensive 3m stuff and they haven't come off and they have been on for years
The red 3M double sided tape. Clean both pieces with some alcohol first. That will remove any residue from them. And press well. It has held vent visors on for 18 years on my truck!! Hope this helps Brian
I made "B" pilars for my GT conversion out of aluminum- The windows I got from the junkyard were broke at the leading edges.....I drilled holes and put screws thru- even if they seperate from the body, the screws will hold them as a safety device......I was able to cover the screw that locks the "B" pilars in place with a G6 trunk emblem- they are very nice looking emblems. If I had a clue how to, I'd post a couple of pics.
What I'm saying is, if you are not set on absolutely stcok appearance, you could put screws(I also used those counter-sunk finish washers) and then cover it with an emblem- I suspect that you're not stuck on stock because of the scoops.....
Hi Randy. I looked these up for you after I saw you asking for advice on installation.
Turbo Scoop Installation Instructions
The following instructions are merely suggested options for installation. There are other ways to properly install your GT Turbo Scoops. We are providing you with some of the methods of installation that other customers have recommended. Furthermore, the silicone and double sided tape included with the kit are one alternative that can be used for turbo scoop installation. The Fiero Store is only responsible for the scoops/windows that it ships and is not responsible for faulty installations or adhesive failure. Labor claims will not be acknowledged. If you are not familiar with the processes listed below, please seek the help of a professional automotive technician.
Removing your factory quarter windows: All original Fiero GT quarter windows are held in place with double sided tape. To remove the window, you can use a glass removal tool to cut the tape. Many customers opt to use a long, flexible, sharp knife to slide between the window and the body of the car. Cut the tape by working the knife around the window. Other methods of removing your quarter windows may be applied.
Installing your GT Turbo Scoops
Note: Prior to painting and installing your scoops, test fit them to determine if any prep work needs to be done.
After painting do one of the following:
Option 1: Clean the body surface. It is imperative that any residual debris from your old quarter windows be removed from the body surface. Any residue on the body surface will prohibit the new scoops from securing safely to your Fiero. Next, stick the double sided tape to the GT Turbo Scoop, being sure to press down firmly so that the tape adheres fully to the surface area. Align the scoop in the center of the opening. There should be an equal amount a space between the scoop and body all the way around. Firmly press the scoop to your Fiero being sure that the tape adheres fully to the surface of your car. Optional: Apply a thin bead of clear silicone between the scoop and your car just above the double sided tape. Once cured, this will better protect the tape from weather damage. Allow 24 hours for the adhesives to cure before driving.
Option 2: After cleaning the body surface, bolt the scoops to your Fiero. Be sure to center the scoop over the opening before drilling any holes, leaving equal space between the scoop and the body of the car all the way around. Mark as many holes as you would like, in the area you would like them, being sure to leave equal spaces between holes. Drill the holes and bolt the scoops to your Fiero. Optional: Customers have found that black 5/16" button head allen bolts with nuts provide aesthetic appeal as well as the best security for the scoops. These bolts can be painted to match the scoops.
Option 3: After cleaning the body surface, some customers and body shops have found that windshield glass adhesive has worked well in securing the scoops to the body of your Fiero.
Window scoop installation: Once the scoop is attached to the car, make sure that the window fits properly in the opening of the scoop. If adjustment is needed, lightly sand (using light sandpaper) the edges of the window to get a proper fit all the way around. Due to the nature of fiberglass, the size of the opening may vary slightly on each scoop. Apply a small bead of clear silicone to the window opening and firmly press the window in place. Clean any residual silicone off of the scoop and/or window before it hardens and let it sit for at least 24 hours.
Option 3: After cleaning the body surface, some customers and body shops have found that windshield glass adhesive has worked well in securing the scoops to the body of your Fiero.
When I had my NOS sail panels replace, this was done. They have been in place for more than ten years.
