There was a thread on this topic back in 2009 which I found in a search, but then my heart sank when I realized it was not addressing the kind of repair I needed on my cover.

The plastic "finger" that channels the seat belt across the seat has broken off (due to a careless, large mechanic). I tried using some really strong 2-part epoxy (Araldite, if I remember correctly) only to have it break again. Anyone had any success with another fix, or do I need to suck it up and buy another for $20 plus s/h?

Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about a peace of plastic that holds the belt on the upper part of the seat or something else? A picture would be helpful so we know what you are talking about. Because I really am not sure what it is you are talking about

It's the piece down by the driver's waist, left hand side.

I don't know of a way to host a pic. Not very tech savvy, sorry.

EDIT:

See if this works.

The little finger on the inside commonly breaks. The finger fits into the slot on the metal seat bracket and holds the top of the cover tigh5 to the seat.
Perhaps it could be replaced by a properly shaped piece of wire or metal that is epoxied to the inside of the cover.

I'm sorry for not being very clear.

The "finger" piece that is broken is the plastic trim piece, visible in the pic.

I have in the past repaired the seat belt cover using "Plast-Aid". It's a two-part adhesive for hard plastic. In fact, I used the Plast-Aid to repair the console skeleton and other hard plastic parts!

It would be nice if the Fiero Store or Rodney Dickman would cast some of these out of metal (a cheap pot metal would do). Also, for those of us with t-tops, cast metal end caps would be good too.

I'm pretty sure from his description that he means this has broken off due to someone's carelessness...

I realize this is an old thread...

The piece being referenced is commonly referred to as the "tang".

I however, am curious how one goes about getting the tab referred to here as the "finger" into the metal slot along the seat recline mechanism. Is there some kind of trick that I am unaware of? I made a few attempts but am afraid to break the plastic tab off as it doesn't seem to line up very easily as I would have expected.

Any help would be appreciated,
-Van

Maybe I should start a new thread (as I realize this thread is about a fix)...I wasn't asking for a fix. I just want to know how to get the tab back into the slot before screwing down the two screws. It doesn't seem to want to line up and I don't want to break a fresh new one.
