I'm replacing the EGR tube Gaskets after doing some work to the fuel rail. I have to gaskets in the kit I got, ones 'cardboard' looking and the other metallic with a a restrictor, while all shaped correctly they look different than the ones I'm replacing.
I'm wondering which one of the two I have go on the EGR valve end and which one goes on manifold end. Also will the gasket with the restrictor have a unwanted effect.

I have a 86 GT V6.

Much Thank,

Rick

You've asked a good question. I've often wondered about that myself. Recently I noticed the following at Rodney Dickman's site...

Replacement EGR gaskets. The small hole gasket goes on the intake manifold side of the EGR tube. This prevents a high idle condition if the EGR tubebreaks.

I have to assume that the restriction created with that smaller hole does not impair EGR performance (although on my own EGR system, I haven't used any gaskets with a smaller hole).

The restrictor goes between the tube and the intake manifold. The small hole in it prevents wide open throttle condition should the egr tube develop a leak.

Edit: Darned, Patrick, are you always that quick in everything you do? You had to be posting that about the time I clicked "Reply".
