Unfortunately some punk thought it would be fun to take the Fiero Hood Emblem from my car. I bought a replacement at the Fiero Store, but I cannot find information on how to replace it. I thought it might be glued, but the replacement comes in a plate that has 2 metal wide nails that appear need to go thru and get locked in place somehow. It looks to me like I need to take all the screws out to remove the bumper in order to install the emblem, but I do not want to disassemble my Fiero if there is no need to do so. I have a 1985 Coupe, anyone has experience replacing the emblem? Thanks for your help on this.

from me taking my front bumper off many times and turning my 84 bumper pad into gt. and having some extra fiero front logos. the only way I see to do it is to remove the bumper and there is two posts off the logo one keeps it from spinning and the other had a nut . that holds it in place.

Just remove all of the top screws holding the bumper on and with some help or a thin board you should be able to get your hand under the bumper and replace your emblem, I did mine that way.

I found the emblem on my 84 was held on with foam mounting tape. The pins were there to line it up but it was taped on. They must have put the tape on the back and trimmed around the edge. It looked original and was really hard to get off for painting of the pumper pad.

That's correct. One of those thin stamped out sheet-metal nuts (don't know what they're called) is used on the center post, and the off-center post keeps the emblem from turning.

I had the nose emblem (it's not a "hood" emblem ) peeled off by some idiot backing into my '88 Formula recently. Unlike the aero/GT nose, it appears that the '87-'88 coupe/Formula nose needs to come off to install the emblem as well. I don't know about the bumper-pad noses.

Had to remove the nose on my 85 bumper pad to remove the emblem for painting. No other way to get at it really

There are two parts to the badge: The actual badge and the stand-off. I have a NOS (in box) badge and it's about 1/8" thick and adheres to the stand-off with glue or thin double-sided tape. The stand-off I presume has the pin and bolt setup to attach it to the nose.

I am interested on buying the insert, as the metal part is held securily in place. However mine is a regular FIERO emblem, not a GT (your profile picture shows a GT emblem) which one is the one you have available? and if you do have the same one I need would you sell it to me? I have one that I bought from the Fiero Store, but is already glued in to the plate and I am afraid to brake it if I try to remove it. Let me know.

Good point. I believe the actual emblem is glued to the back plate/stand-off. In a post of mine from a few weeks ago, you can see the emblem is separate from the (broken) back plate.

Both studs were broken off the back plate and the plate itself was also broken in two. The emblem itself didn't break, but it's heavily scuffed by the truck sliding over it before the back plate let go of the nose. If worse comes to worse, it might be doable to cut-polish the scuffs off the emblem and glue it onto a replacement back plate.

It actually looks worse in real life than in the image, but it still might be salvageable with cut-polish and a new back plate if a whole new replacement can't be had.

Ive always called them speed nuts. They cut their own threads and only takes maybe one turn to tighten it. Id just put on black 3M 2 faced tape and be done with it. You can trim it around the edges with a sharp razor blade before sticking it.

Yeah, that might be the term I've heard before. Thanks Roger.

Speed nuts are indeed the correct name. Try to get your hands on a factory original speed nut if at all possible. The parts store and doorman variety are very poorly made and tend to be rounded out to begin with. I will never again buy these cheap pieces!
