One of my front hubs did not have the keyed washer behind the nut.

I can't seem to find one (new) locally ..... um or online for that matter.

Rockauto sells a pack of 5 without the key.

How important is it to have the keyed washer for the front axle spindle washer?

You want the key washer.
Key keeps nut at correct torque.

try www.dormanproducts.com order thru many parts stores.

As long as it's not an 88, the 76-87 Chevettes are supposed to have the same spindles. Might be easier to find in the bone yards, or parts books.

I have made this washer. You will need to find a donor with proper od and smaller ID . You will need a vise , a good round file (chainsaw Swiss will work), a 3 corner saw file and patience. Debur it. Half hour at most. The washer thickness will play into the bearing preload so get a thick donor you can dress down (flat) with 60 grit emery.

Yeah, you would have a really hard time finding one for an '88.

Dorman have spindle washers but don't know if have exact ones that fits Fiero. I don't have one to measure.

Never "preload" the nut!
Nut specs are in my Cave, Front Bearings

Dorman 618-026 (RockA listing etc) is rear axle I think, not front spindle. Doesn't have the "key."

Bumping an old thread I know... but having a hard time finding a replacement front spindle nut. Does anyone have a part number or the proper size for an 87GT?

I cannot find any analog. It appears you need to make a run to the Junkyard; 87 Fiero in Havelock (Since March) and one in Elmira, NY since Sept 3. There is a Chevette in Wilson since June and another in Elmira since Aug 19.

Take a look on "Row 52" to search the JYs for cars....You may be able to get someone to send you a nut....You can call the Fiero Factory in Toney, Al....Phone # 256-285-1988...

I would suggest to every Fiero owner to grab a few spares when there is a Fiero in the JY near you!

I was able to find these axle washers at my local NAPA store. That was a while ago but they might still have them.

Just take a washer and do a heavy tack weld to make the tab. Grind it flat, file the sharp corners if needed.
