YES I KNOW this is a stupid post, but I honestly don't know. I have a 100% original '87 GT with the V6, AUTOMATIC. How do I do a burnout? Since I was a kid, I always thought you just press your foot to the floor. Now that I am older and have a car, I know that that is not correct. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
with an automatic, and low horse power like the fiero, you have to power brake it. meaning push on the brake pedal hard, floor the throttle and start easing up on the brake until wheels start to spine and smoke.
With that said, it is a terribly abusive thing to do to an under powered car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cars with high HP (like my vet) and automatics can often smoke the tires buy just romping on the gas.
Had an auto Opel Kadet in High School and tied to be cool in the the parking lot. Rev'd her up .....dropped the auto trans into drive. and then replaced the gears in the rear end.... $75 lesson.

Spray rear tires liberally with spray silicone lubricant. Move car slightly forward so you can spray the part that was on the ground. Get in car, start engine, put in gear, and floor it.

Do this in a parking lot where you can keep doing donuts until you've burned it all off. I made the mistake of getting spray tire shine on my tire treads. I backed out of my drive and drove about 250 feet to the end of my street. When I made a right turn at the stop sign, the rear end came around on me.
First do a complete tune up of your car, plugs , wires , fluids, filters , so on. Add octane booster to your fuel, for complete ignition . Safety first, drive your Fiero down to the nearest drag strip, you don't want anyone to get hurt. Line up car on strip, have help stand by. get out of Fiero and into something with more horse power. Take off. .
Aren't you the one who went to Watkins Glen last month? Who then after running hard there had a transmission problem?
I know it is tempting to do that, but with what you have in your car you won't get much wheel spin and if you try you most likely with have transmission problems. Again.
I have a 3800 SC III with a 4T65E-HD tranny that is built up and I don't get much wheel spin. I have about twice the HP and the Fiero really won't spin the tires most of the time. I have power braked it before, but I really don't want to break my car. And I really don't drive slow or easy. If you remember I was the one who got out and talked to you at Watkins Glen with the sun burnt black 88GT.
Bleach causes the white smoke, and bald tires, well speak for themselves.
My friend, when he first heard that, decided to soak his tires in bleach, IE: take them off his truck and dunk/soak them in a tub full of bleach, All they would do after that, was spin and smoke, they would NOT go anywhere, no traction what so ever. Was funny though.
Or the (more) right way, get brake 'line locks', they lock the front tires, hmmm a 2.8 still might need bleach LOL.
I've never been able to spin the tires whilst braking... I have however have dumped the auto from neutral into 1st, and more than once to help initiate. donuts are another easy way to break traction with the underpoweredness of the stock 2.8
but the others are right, unless you have a high powered motor coupled to the trans, its best to not abuse it.
Ive seen a fiero gt on youtube do a one wheel wonder with some bleach on the rears. XDDDDDDDDDD

Yeah that's me. I've basically determined that the 1-2 shift happens only when it redlines, and if I go full throttle or use the "passing gear" it slips, I think into neutral, until I let off the throttle and get it into 2nd again. It's my only car, so I'm lucky that it's still driveable even if people tell me not to. I still am going to do a transmission fluid change before I get it looked at.
And again, this post wasn't 100% serious, as I am pretty aware that an under powered car that is 27 years old will have some trouble spinning the tires. My brother, who you also probably met, was just curious if I was doing it right.
And your car was nice. I didn't realize it was an '88. Those mods on it were pretty cool! is a new paint job in the future?
Roll the car slowly in reverse and then slip it into neutral. Then rev the engine to 3500 and drop it into drive.
Let us know how many burn outs you can get before your transmission drops out.
when I tried to do that in neutral with the car rolling back slightly on the driveway, when I slammed it into first, it spun tires for 5 ft, but after, it wouldn't come out of drive after. turns out a spring on the inside burst through part of the valve body assembly, and no more, and that was with an 88 duke
It is important to know what you are doing when you plan to do something so abusive.
expensive things can happen.
I used to always do long smoky burn-outs on my sportbikes when it was time to replace my rear rubber. One of the more memorable ones was at my roommate's workplace Right in front of the Honda dealership on my Yamaha!

Yes, it is in my wish list of things to do this year.
