I assume the rotors would need to be changed and modified? I ask because I really want to keep my build period correct, I like the same era Firebird turbine style wheels in 15x7. I have never attempted or thought about such until now.

The problem with firebird wheels is offset, I had a set of Trans am snowflakes on the back of my 87 I used wheel adapters to put them on 1 inch thick. For the lug pattern you want to convert in the rear I would look into the s10 hub upgrade, I personally am running 4th Gen Camaro rims with wheel adapters and they are working out fine

How would ride quality and safety be affected running adapters?

The 4th gen firebird and corvettes of the same years switched to a fwd friendly offset, but you still have to deal with the adapter to change the bolt pattern. Or a labor intensive modification.. If someone had a bolt on kit to adapt the hubs I would buy it in a heartbest.

Olejoedad had a full setup for the front, spindles and all, for sale 5x4.75. You would still need the rear , 6000 uprights, s10 4x4 hub bearing and cv joints.

On an 88 the fronts are easy...you can just redrill. The rears are the hard part. Still waiting for a 100% bolt on solution.

With wheel adapters they will affect front scrub radius a little but, if you have a good quality adapter safety & ride won't change.

This guy makes the best adapters & he gets them done quick. I've bought from him about 10 times & he usually ships them out the day after you order them. http://www.wheeladapter.com/index.php

If you have them made with front & rear registers, they are just as safe as OEM wheels. when installed they effectively just move the wheel's offset towards the negative side. i.e. a wheel with a 35mm positive offset will have a Negative 15.8mm offsetwith a 2" adapter

If you have registers on them they are just as good as having custom wheels made.

Even if you are not changing the bolt pattern & want to move the wheel out from the hub, don't use spacers. Instead use adapters.

Yeah the 87 down are not to hard. I still have a set of front hubs myself I done the backs on my n* but ended up using 5x115 and left the fronts alone.

I'll most likely stick to my original plan of 18 or 20 hole 15x7 steelies powder coated silver, with chrome beauty rings. I have a friend in engineering that has access to a plastic molding machine (maker) I'll have him recreate new OEM Fiero black center caps.

Thanks for the feedback
