Are you sure? ... The 2.8L V6 is kind of a dog. It's rated at around 140-ish HP, but you're more realistically putting out at the very least 20 HP less than that, then top off age of the engine which diminishes HP figures. I can gun my GT with the 5 speed and it rarely chirp tires.
But yes you may want to check for intake and exhaust flow and make sure everything is working properly.
Although I think ultimately you're going to find out this is why so many people do drivetrain swaps.
