I am (slowly) doing an L67 swap into an 85 Fiero, and I have an old, dead L36. I was able to salvage the the components in the picture from the L36. Which ones can I use on my L67? It's always nice to have spares.

Also, the original oil pan on my L67 has a lot of surface rust. I know the L36 pan will bolt up, but is it different? It looks like it's a little taller, but I'm not sure this matters.

Thanks

The coil packs you have there will interchange the egr valve will interchange. Most all the sensors will interchange.. MAF (Depending on year), TPS, IAC, CPS, CPK, Knock, ect. Water pump, power steering pump, alternator-(depending on year), AC compressor, exhaust manifolds, o2 sensors, oil pump. Almost everything is interchangeable. Even the blocks can be interchanged the only difference is compression.

Only thing i can think of off the top of my head that doesn't swap is obviously the intake manifold, heads, fuel injectors, fuel rail, and the L36 throttle body has an oval shape while the L67 is round.

The pan MAY interchange. It depends on what vehicles the engines came from. The bolt pattern is the same tho like you said. I'd take a tape measure to it and find out how much different the measurments are and then see if you have enough space for the pan to fit. if it is deeper make sure to swap the pick up tube with the oil pan

External wise a lot of the parts interchange like exhaust including the EGR, water pump etc. most sensors except the MAP the SC uses a 2 bar with different connectors on the series II and the N/A uses a standard 1 bar and I think the SC uses different knock sensors. The ignition module itself is the same but the SC uses different coils they go by the color under the coil which is blue for most of the SC's. You can use the N/A coils but there is differences in them. Dan

Thanks, that's what I needed. Does anyone know about the oil pans? I know the F--body L36 one bolts up, but I'm not sure if there is any difference.

98 and earlier use a AFH50M-04 MAF
99+ use AFH50M-05 MAF
They are not interchangeable.

MAPs on the 3800s are of two different form factors. There is the Metri-pack connector MAP like the one in your photo. There is also the WeatherPack MAP

Metri-pack

Weatherpack

Of each of these form factors there is a 1 Bar (NA) and 2 Bar (SC) versions. The 1 Bar versions are used on the NA engines. The 2 Bar versions are used on the SC engine.

Oil pressure senders come in many varieties. For the sender to work with the Fiero gauge, the sender needs to come from a car that was equipped with a gauge. I suggest the 4 wire 98 Bonneville sender. Two wires are for the gauge (one ground, one sender), and two wires are for fuel pump power. The sender also responds to 0 - 120 rather than 0 - 80. The problem with the 0 - 80 senders is that 3800s can peg the gauge.

Interesting. I'll have a look at that. I like that the oil pressure sender is also connected to the fuel pump. Years ago I destroyed an engine that lost oil pressure before I noticed it.

The oil pressure sensor has a switch that acts as back up to the fuel pump relay. That is that EITHER can keep the fuel pump running. So a loss of oil pressure won't cause the engine to stop, well until the engine has eaten itself that is.

Pretty sure tb's interchange, got a couple of each in the shop and they bolt up the same but there is a difference in diameter.
The L67 is larger of the two (if you need one i'll be selling a ported/thermal coated L67 in next week or so).
All the sensor stuff does almost, basically if it plugs it plays but you need to make sure and run the L67 MAP because it is 2bar.
Injectors will work but you need the larger L67's (again,i've got a couple spare sets if needed).
Exhaust manifolds interchange as well as the oil pans.

The major differences between the motors are the injectors, the injector rail that fits over the blower, the heads have injectors in L67 versus in the intake on L36, of course the lower intake/upper intake different and the TB is larger on the L67.
As far as wiring, the only difference is the bypass valve for the blower and extending some wires for the evap or map sensor depending which harness you use. (Also injector plugs depending on year, but just have to splice in new plugs.)

Other than that stuff the L67 has different rod/piston for lower compression and cam is same but advanced 2degrees on one or the other.
I would just toss the EGR in the trash, and possibly the evap stuff (use a vented cap).
Good luck with swap!

Throttle bodies do not interchange there is a pin that sticks out on the SC that will hit on the N/A TB to prevent mixing them up of course you could remove the pin but you are better off using a SC TB on the SC engine,
