BTW - Fierostore sale tomorrow, Wednesday, December 4, 2013

85 GT driver's door seal weak, door doesn't close very well = noisy commute

Doesn't TFS sell the rubber gasket weatherstrip seal that goes all the way around the edge of the door? Can't find it.

Other sites seem to have rather generic seals for about fifty bucks. Anyone who's done this recently - where did you get the part?

The other fixes such as realignment of the door and replacing other seals like the dew wipes seem like too much time and effort on this DD. Spraying white lithium grease on the hinges and such has worked in the past, but doesn't to be adequate anymore.

I do have a missing exhaust bolt to replace. That could make a big difference, but there is also a lot of wind noise. I'm really blasting the radio at highway speeds just to be able to hear traffic reports and news even with everything closed tight and no fans running.

Before you consider replacing any door seals you really should ensure the door itself is properly aligned. This can cause terrible windnoise. For example; on S-10's the hinge pins and bushings can wear so badly the door will actually leak water. Also, the outer sealing strip (aka dew wipe) can contribute to windnoise.

If you want to test for airleaks you can apply masking tape over the suspect seal and redrive the car. In the case of the primary weatherstrip on the driver's door you could have a helper apply the tape, or climb over the console.

Also, make sure the door vapor barriers and sound damping jute is still present inside the door panel.

If the noise is a wind rush, rather than an airleak, check your body panel alignment. The front edge of each panel should be slightly below flush relative to the rear edge of the panel in front of it.
