So I was told that to properly sey timing on the 2.8 v6 you have to jump the a b terminals and set base timing. So does that mean that if the timing was set without jumping the connectors the timing will be wrong? And can that cause poor performance?

It will be about 10 deg retarded. Power will be greatly reduced. Your exhaust manifold will glow red.
