What model 2.8L have the 3/4" hose inlet blocked off on the Air Cleaner Housing, (at 10 o'clock position) and what models have the hose coming from the bulkhead area connected to the Air Cleaner Housing?

I am guessing it may be 5-speed vs. auto. trans, but not sure.

Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: Does anyone have photos of the recall repair vs. the original PCV breather tube design?

It's not a model-specific thing, but rather a question of whether or not a recall service was performed. The V6 models originally had the PCV breather tube running along the firewall to the air cleaner housing. But in a recall, that tube was disconnected, and the fitting on the air cleaner canister was capped off. A new (shorter) tube was installed, running to the rubber intake hose.

That's how it was supposed to be done.

I have seen so many V6 Fieros where one end of this tube is still connected to the "filtered" side of the air filter housing, and the other end of this tube on the firewall is open to the elements.

The result... unfiltered air has been drawn into the intake system for decades.

So in either of the stock configurations, blow-by goes through the throttle body, gumming up the works!

And also interesting to note is the fact that the filter input air travels into the filter through the inside (the donut hole) to the outer side of the filter before going to the engine.

Seems to me, it ought to be the other way around for better filter life (and flow).

Well, in theory the air is only going one way... from the air filter housing/rubber snorkel to the front valve cover... not towards the throttle body. This tube is supposed to be suppling clean air to be drawn into the crankcase for the PCV system to suck out.

But obviously (with a quick inspection) it can be seen that oil laden air is being sucked into the throttle body. If the baffling on the underside of the 2.8 valve cover is no better than the (lack of) baffling on the underside of the 2.5 valve cover, it's no wonder that the throttle body gets gunked up.

I added a metal mesh material to the "baffles" in the valve cover of my '84 duke and it made a HUGE difference with how much blow-by oil was ending up in the air filter housing. It basically eliminated it. Some day I should do a thread on that.

If the large rubber intake duct from the Air Cleaner Housing to the Throttle Body has the steel tube on the front side near the Throttle Body end, and goes to the front valve cover PCV hole, along with the capped the outlet on the Air Cleaner Housing, is that the correct recall fix?

It looks like all my 2.8L have the new steel tube from the rubber intake duct to the front valve cover PCV hole, but some have the capped off Air Cleaner outlet, and some don't.

Thanks for the help.
