Well, in theory the air is only going one way... from the air filter housing/rubber snorkel to the front valve cover...
not towards the throttle body. This tube is supposed to be suppling clean air to be drawn into the crankcase for the PCV system to suck out.
But obviously (with a quick inspection) it can be seen that oil laden air is being sucked into the throttle body. If the baffling on the underside of the 2.8 valve cover is no better than the (lack of) baffling on the underside of the 2.5 valve cover, it's no wonder that the throttle body gets gunked up.
I added a metal mesh material to the "baffles" in the valve cover of my '84 duke and it made a HUGE difference with how much blow-by oil was ending up in the air filter housing. It basically eliminated it. Some day I should do a thread on that.
