Greetings PFF'ers,

I am in the process of replacing a torn RHS Upper front ball joint boot. The balljoint is a Moog brand adjustable. I could not find a snap ring or oubt in the balljoint housing so pulled the boot off. Is there some form of retainer for these balljoints that I have missed? It was reasonably difficult to hoike out and has a thicker (than the rest of the boot) rubber lip that sits inside the balljoint housing.

My bag o bits has a different sized boot with the same thick lip and some less manly boots that might do the job with a poly boot over the top. But would like to know if I have missed a snap ring or other retaining system afore I decide on my next move.

Cheers

None of the aftermarket ball joints I've ever installed came with a snap ring. Once the stud is fed through the hole in the knuckle, the boot simply gets compressed around the base of the ball joint. It's not ideal.

Thank you Blooze for the info and for the fast response. Having mocked it up with the bag'0'bits boots I am reasonably happy as the first boot goes inside the housing as did the orig (albeit with less holding it in place) and the poly boot squishes over the outside as its compressed.

Cheers
