I have a 1988 GT in which the gas gauge reads full all the time, regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. I am removing the tank today to replace the fuel pump and will inspect the sending unit once I get it out. Any advice on what to look for and how to repair the unit if necessary? Also, is there anyplace where I can obtain a working unit?

The Fiero Store has a complete sending unit. Or you could post the need in the Mall section.

Thanks for that link to repairing the unit. It is very thorough with good pictures of how to clean and adjust the sending unit. Also, I contacted The Fiero Store and found that they have a replacement sending unit (part # 60912) for the 88 GT. So, I will either repair the existing one or purchase the replacement. Hopefully, no more running out of gas.

Good News. After removing the fuel sending unit from the tank, I found that it was very corroded. After thoroughly cleaning it, I got a reading of 90 ohms on full and 8 ohms on empty. I did not try to adjust the lower end cause I was afraid my luck would run out and I would break a wire or something. So, I placed the unit back in the tank. Now, the needle on the tank still reads full even though the tank is only half- full.. All the wiring checks out ok. So now what do I check? Is there something I can do the gauge
itself to unstick the needle?

Unplug the harness in the engine bay and ground the sending unit signal wire (pink) to the gauge with the ignition on, if it returns to 0 the problem is still the sending unit, if it still doesn't move it's either the gauge or a contact point in between.
