Started on the extra bumper to make skitime front spoiler. So I have spider cracks in my bumpers and from reading I need to remove all paint. Maybe I got carried away due to some paint comes off easier than the other, so does some of the primer. Do I need to remove just the spidered paint or will this show thru with levels of paint? The extra bumper has all paint removed and some of the primer.

You need to remove everything including all the primer. If the cracking is in the actual plastic, you may need a skim coat of flexible filler on that area too. Dont pile on lots of primer or paint to try and fill them...it will ALWAYS come back thru. Use only minimal coats of primer 1-2, and only 2 color and 2 clear coats at most. If your color sanding it after, you can put a 3rd clear coat on. Any more than those and your just asking for it to crack again.

Thank you I have read a few other post about this issue. Do you mean the crack will always come back or only if to much filler is used. If in the plastic and one area does should I V it out and add filler? I had a perfect bumper believe it or not unit my wife backed in to it with my truck.

No it will always come back IF its in the plastic and you just primer and paint it. If it didnt have the cracks before she bumped it, its prob just in the paint. So you might not need any filler at all. Just dont pile on primer and paint thinking that will fix it. IF its in the plastic AFTER you sand all the primer off, then you use some filler after Ving them out.
When you put the first primer on, just put on a couple of light to medium coats. Most times it will dry 'fuzzy' because of the plastic fibers. Scuff off the top coat of the primer with 320-400 paper to get the fuzz off and make it smooth. If you can, try not to sand clear thru. Respot the primer as nec and it wont fuzz up again, then put your paint on. It usually only fuzzes up with the first coat of primer on the bare part. Make sure its all smooth before you paint, it will show thru as rough. It may not feel it, but it looks like it is. Again dont bury it in layers and layers of primer...it ONLY needs to cover the entire part.

Wow this is a lot of sanding. Can I use heavier than 320 to grind the stuff off. I am using a block so I don't finger F it.

You really need a DA to sand it with. You can start with 80 grit, then go to 180 to smooth it out. I always prime with PPG epoxy (DP) primer - it's the best adhering & most flexible.

I read many post saying to not use a DA on the bumpers.

Don't know who would say that. Roger & I have both been doing this for 45+ years, & it's what we use.
