I have an 88 ttop 2.5 with a 3rd brake light. I need it to be working for inspection. The garage said he put a meter to it and no power going to the bulb. Bulb looks good. Is there a fuse for it ? Any ideas ? Thanks in advanced.

Fuse number 7

In most cars, the 3rd brake light runs off a different fuse than the main brake lights...but it appears to be the same one in the Fiero. They do run off separate terminals on the switch, though....so it is possible that it is a bad switch, or a broken/loose wire between the switch and the brake light. There is also a potential terminology issue with how the mechanic checked for power. I translate that as "there is no 12v+ reaching the bulb"....but if he just checked for voltage between one side of the bulb to the other, then I would suspect a grounding issue.

This happened to my 88. Was the switch on the brake pedal. The switch has 2 contacts. One for brake lights and one for the third brake light. So one can work while the other does not work. It is easy to test with a meter. I replaced it with a good used one out of a junk yard car. Has been fine since.

When I had this issue on my 88, it was the switch on the brake pedal.

Update. I greatly appreciated everyones input. I ran a volt meter to the socket myself. 11.7 volts. So I guess the guy at the garage never checked it in the first place. So I guess the bulb is bad. I am going to replace it Friday.

Make sure you use right bulb #... Wrong one can melt the parts, even cause fires.

One last update. I put a new bulb in it #889. It still would not light. Good ground, reading voltage. So I took your guys advise and changed the switch. Low and behold it lights up like a Christmas tree. I can't thank you guys enough for the advise. Now I can get the inspection sticker put on it. Have a great day.
