Any ideas why the front compartment lid won't latch when I close it? I've dropped it a half dozen times and it just bounces out. I sprayed the mechanism with WD40, jiggled the cable from inside, and sanded the rust off or the lid latching "hook". Something worked once, but now I see that it didn't solve the problem. Thanks. 87 Coupe

Is the latch pawl open. Didn't get tripped shut by chance.
I'd pull the latch out and make sure it's cleaned up and locking and unlocking correctly.
If the level the cable pulls on to open is not letting the level return all the way it will not latch.
Otherwise is there anything stopping the hood from going down all the way.

Look for a wrench or screw driver lying in the landing zone.

Ask how I know......

Try closing from a higher position. If it closes you have hood miss-alignment. If not the latch pawl may be damaged.
