Does anyone know of the parts not available for the pre 88 gt's, maybe a list to refer to for the future? Parts that at least keep it running and able to drive. Thank you.

That is a very hard thing to do. As of now, everything is available because cars are still being taken off the road and sent to the boneyard. When junk Fieros are sold directly to collectors, you will know that parts are getting really difficult to find. I suppose the GT tail lignts are going to be on that list, but more for aesthetic reasons.

I agree. My mechanic friend of mine, says maney GM parts are interchangeable, includeing older engines. Just find a vehicle that uses the same Fiero motor. Another source would be the mall section of this web sight or Fiero store.

New VIN tags are not legally available.

I am sure you could buy them however.

You will have some problems getting R12

The input shaft bearing for the Getrag is hard to get.

I can tell you one thing that is getting hard to find, drive axles for an 84. Had to replace one of mine, took 3 attempts to get the right one. Don't trust the parts lists, 84 axles are 84 only.

Odd, I just plugged an 84 Muncy into a 86 GT using the 86 axels and it fits and runs well. Larry

In all the years that I have been messing with Fieros, this is the first time I've heard anyone say this.

To restate...
All automatic Fiero axles are supposed to fit all years, and all automatic trannies.
All manual Fiero axles are supposed to fit all years, and all manual trannies.

Our club mechanic has parted out many Fieros and repaired many more, and he has never had any problems interchanging axles.
In fact, he had an 84 tranny in his 86 V6 SE for a while (wanted the 4.10 FDR) and reused his 86 axles.

Perhaps there was an anomaly with one of your vehicles.

http://www.fierosails.com/PartsManual.htmlCheck the Fiero interchange list and you'll see the 84 axles listed as 84 only. Auto zone had an 85 axle, which I have sitting in the box that did not fit. the length is off just enough that the hub will not in. Can't seem to get the link to work, but Fierosails is right that the 84 is used only on 84. The tranny's will interchange with other years but the axles from the later years won't fit the 84. Just like the 85 Caddy I used to have . The first year of the front wheel drive, a lot of the parts for that were only used on the first year model.

I believe what he's saying is that the 84 axles fit only the 84 chassis. If you put an 84 trans in an 86 and tried to reuse the 84 axles too.... I believe this is where the problem of length would come into play. I can't verify that, but I believe this is the point has trying to make.
