i have a 96 buick series II computer motor and trans going in my 86 fiero gt. is the 96 computer ok to use, does it matter or are newer ones better?

98 and newer are smaller, I have a97 PCM in the corner of my trunk - works fine and tunes fine with HP tuners. Smaller 98 allows to be mounted in the stock fiero pcm location.

do you use the same conectors as the bigger pcm or do you have to rewire the conector?

Yes...Use a 98-02 PCM....I say wire ur swap to a 99 and have the PCM to match....

96 Buick is going to have the 4T60E transmission. GM changed to the 4T65E in 97. You have to use either the 96 (OBD2) or 95 (OBD1) computer.

The 96 computer won't fit in the arm rest area unless you drop the glove box. Most 95 3800s were Series 1. I don't know if GM made a SC S2 in 95.

But you can't do the 98 - 02 PCM with the 4T60E tranny.

+1 on the connectors being the same size - but wired different.

Long story short, the 96 ECU is all that will work if you keep the 60e.

They work quite well, and can be easily tuned ONLY with DHP powertuner. The 96/97 ECU's had some quirky problems with knock sensing, and I usually completely disable it on the 96 ECU's if it gives me problems (or pre-emptively for people that are responsible enough to not run 86 octane and try racing it).
