I am painting the car. Removing the sunroof gasket would make a nicer finished product. Is it glue in? Will I destroy it to getting it out? Should I tape around it instead? On one project I used 10 gage wire between the gasket and panel to pull the gasket back. That worked pretty well.

If you remove it and damage it, it may be hard to replace.

Removing it should not damage it, if you are careful. The gasket itself is not glued in, but grabs onto the rails around the perimiter. I removed mine when I had the car painted, and suggest the same. It will just not come out well taping off, as you will always see where it was taped.

I also bought new tracks from the Fiero Store, as mine were completely rusted out, and just small pieces of the old tracks remained!

Here is a shot of installing the new tracks, as you can see taking the gasket and tracks out to paint, was a much better way to go:

If your tracks are sealed to the roof, and the weatherstrip is sealed to the tracks and corners, and your glass seals to the weatherstrip, and the gaskets are good on your glass hardware, you don't need them. My Indy never did.
I'm betting the track not sealed to the roof is the largest problem when people go drilling the holes. Doesn't fix anything, just band aids a problem.

I am not so sure....In 90 bought a pristine 86 with with 28,000 miles on (essentially a new car)....it leaked. The dealer drilled the holes to fix it...and then this became how they built them in later years
