84 uses different wire plan...

The alt goes thru C500 and can melt when the contacts are crap.

Fix C500 but avoid 1 red wire that goes to the alt on C500-E4. reroute that to the battery similar to later years.

also See my Cave, Alternator Sense
(Edit> I updated 1 image to show c500 pins in 84)

Ingition coil get power from C500...
Fix that and See my Cave, Fuse Links notes

White? Hmmm...got a pic? Description sounds like it is either the C500...or the "grommet" that passes through the firewall to the ECM/C203...but the C500 should be black, and the "grommet" should be black/gray.

If you are trying to follow wiring, this might help: http://gafieroclub.org/docs...4_Wiring_Harness.jpg

White? I missed that... Could be the "grommet"/bushing that passes through the firewall to the ECM etc. Not sure if 84 use 1 or 2 of them. later years use 2... 1 for ECM/C203, 1 for C500

No connections in the bulkhead "bushings" to go bad.

May look like melted is really the sealant to waterproof...

Is really melted then Check exhaust for leaks.

84 has two just like the later years.

The one on the left is light gray, the one on the right is black. Same 2 piece fitting just inserted the opposite direction.

It's not an electrical connector, but just a bulkhead fitting. As long as it is still there, it is functional since all it does is separate the engine compartment from the interior. To replace it you need to disconnect the connectors in the console, pull the harness back into the engine compartment, put a loop in the cable that contains the bulkhead fitting and put in a coffee can of boiling water. I have never just inserted it in the boiling water but instead put the fitting in the water and boiled it. So just putting it in might not be enough. Anyways after it is warm enough it will come off leaving a big 'hot glue' piece on the wire. Since you are just replacing the fitting (right?) you can leave that on the wire and then fit the replacement over the hot glue thing.

The only way to get the fitting is to get one from a Fiero or one of the smaller FWD 80s cars in the junk yard. The 80s FWDs have it near the passengers footwell where the cables exit there. Not all bulkhead fittings are the same so measure before you go. And yes it is a pain getting them from the FWDs.
