Why is the 2.8 V6 engine mount bowl shaped? Doesn't that promote catching oil which will degrade the rubber and catching moist dirt that will promote rust? Has anyone ever thought about drilling holes that would allow caught liquids to drain out?

I'm about to change mine so I was just cleaning up my almost-new mounts from my parts car. Even with the short time they were in use, there was gunk collected in the engine mount.

Thoughts?

So true but any wet road grit that might fly in there will be trapped.

It probably won't drain and the hole will get gunked up, but it shouldn't hurt

Then I'll just make the hole bigger! See how easy that was?

I took my old mount out and it had GM stamped on it. Guess what else? It had two big holes drilled in the sides! They were at least 1/4 inch. I already threw it away or I would post a pic. I drilled holes in my new one that weren't near as big. Oh well...
