Bought my 86 GT last year and PO stated that the original radio was going bad so they replaced it with a new radio. My question is I noticed there is a switch above the dome lights. On the switch it has written "Performance Sound - Min / Max". Apparently it has been unhooked because I see no difference when the switch is moved from to right to left or versus. Can anyone explain what is should do?

Look up in the right footwell and see if there is a subwoofer box.

Below is compliments of Fierosails

"Performance Sound" is an option that added an adjustable subwoofer to the stock stereo setup. Since by the time Performance Sound came around it was an add-on, GM/Pontiac just kind of placed it in the most accessibly and easy-to-throw-into space of the car - under the passenger-side of the dash. If you simply look in the foot well area in the passenger-side, you should clearly see the subwoofer protruding from under the dash.

If the prior owner installed a new stereo into the car, then there is a high likelihood the provisions for Performance Sound were not re-installed into the new stereo correctly or something else was done to prevent it from working correctly.

Yup, you can hook it back up to the stereo, if you have the amp. Otherwise, you can get a sub amp and connect it. Check the speaker, as it may be bad.

No fairy tales there. All fact. You can believe it or not, your choice.
