Does the headliner have to be loosened around the sunroof to replace the sunroof tracks and gasket??

Yes. The channels are held in with rivets and a few of the front roof panel bolts thread into the channels as well.

Be prepared for a lot of fiddling to get everything to sit right and seal up correctly. If your car has drain holes in the gasket recess, be sure to make sure they are open, if not present, drill drain holes while access is easy.

Pay close attention during disassembly to the size of rivets, the location and sizes of the rivet washers and the shape and curvature of the gasket channels.

Good luck. This project is more difficult than it appears at first glance.
