Remote trunk lid only works when ignition is on by Fiero.1984

On my Taurus, you can use the remote trunk lid anytime. On my 1984 Fiero, it will only work when the ignition is switched on. Is this the way it is suppose to work?

On 84's, yes. Later years it works even with the car off and no key.
