While attempting to make my harness, Everyone's been telling me to use the 1998 computer instead of the 1997 because it "smaller". I've got a 1997, 1998 and 1999 computer sitting on top of each other. The 1998 and 1999 are "lighter", but they are exactly the same dimensions as the 1997 box.
Please refresh me on any other reason to use the 1998 box. Just want to be sure about it. Thanks

I *THINK* the 98/99's have more onboard memory to allow for a wider selection of programs...

edit:
and well think about it... they changed the design after 1 year, its first year... im sure they made some 'fixes' internally.

97 PCM won't fit in the stock location unless you cut the inside of the glove box out of the console.

98 will fit, but you might have to trim the PCM fins slightly.

yea, that's what they look like. never realized the fiero computer is so much smaller. Is it that the 97 won't fit under the console, Or that the computer won't fit in the stock bracket ?

Neither will fit in the stock bracket. The 98+ will fit in the stock location as shown with little modification. The 97 won't unless you gut out your glove box.

I see ! Man, I don't know how you make all these harnesses, there are so many wires from the plugs that are just not listed in ryan's charts. The wires,( that are "ganged together", Mostly Pink). Then there are separate "little ground wires" that DON'T get ganged together. Does it matter where they go as long as they are grounded ? (I'm sure it does). One plug has 2 black wires w/white stripes, and NO letters or numbers to say where they go ! hell, I was crazy before I started this, they're going to take me away by the time I'm done with this ! LOL
