there are 2 3800 SC's in the boneyard. I spun the superchargers, and 1 made a sound like a" tornado" (whirring sound), the other spun smooth and "quiet". Mine spins smooth an " quiet". The one making the whirring sound "felt" Real Smooth. Am I seeing 1 good one and 2 bad ones? or 2 good ones and 1 bad one ? How do you tell? The couplers seem good, the bearings seem good, the one making the "whirring sound" sort of felt like it was "drawing " more air,(like it was creating a vacuum with the throttle body shut) For $50, I'd like to grab it, if it's Not a "bad one." Thanks

Whatever you end up doing when you take it off, look at the rotors and the housing. If there is a lot of scoring then it is junk.

Are you comparing them when spinning pulley when on engine or off engine? If on engine it will spin different if the cars injectors were removed or if the engine is filled with water (lol, which you wouldn't want that SC anyway).

comparing, well, mines off, the one in the yard is "ON". the one on the car seems to have some drag, not bad bearings drag, but like it is "pressurizing". (Know what I mean?) I just hate to see it get "squashed" when it can be had for $50 ! I'm low on cash or I'd grab it for sure. they do a money back warrantee if it's bad.
If anyone LOCAL to Ocala fla is reading this, there are 2 -3800 SC engines in GAVIN's right now ($250 complete warranteed engines) 1 in a park ave 1999, 1 in a 98 Riviera.

This could be the difference between one having the bbv closed or open (little arm towards the throttle body), I'd check that too as that would make them feel different if one is "pressurizing" and the others aren't.
