I'm sure my endorsement is important for him... but read this first and it'll make sense...

George Will Endorses Zohran Mamdani for NYC Mayor

George Will famously has a bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, but unlike some former conservatives who now think Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are too honest and conservative for their tastes, he has not embraced socialism. So it surprised quite a few people when he endorsed Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York on Bill Maher’s podcast. Red State: “Every 20 years or so, we need a conspicuous, confined experiment with socialism so we can crack it up again,” Will argued. He continued: “Socialists’ slogan used to be, ‘workers of the world, unite,’ ‘you have nothing to lose but your chains.’ The new socialist slogan is, ‘Trust us, this time it won’t be a mess.’ So, you know, when the post-war labor government in Britain was about to get started, one of their leading lights was a socialist named Aneurin Bevan. He said, ‘What could go wrong?’ He said, ‘We have a nation bedded on coal, surrounded by fish. It would take an organizational genius to have a shortage of either.’ In three years, they had a shortage of both. That’s socialism.” I understand his point, that he thinks it will teach people who don’t understand now. The problem is that if Mamdani wins, it means a lot of suffering, and not just for the people in New York. Because of New York’s importance, it’s going to lead to more leftism infecting and hurting people. And it’s silly to think it would be “confined.” It’s like a virus – if you let it live, it spreads.

I'm of the same impression... and was surprised to see others who feel this way. Most of my friends think Mamdani will be a disaster for NYC, and most of them are left-leaning... which is funny, because they've all flirted with the idea of how socialism is where it's at... but now suddenly because the media is telling them that it could be a bad thing, they suddenly don't like socialism?

No... I'm not buying it. I want Mamdani to win. I have no real love for NYC as I've always preferred D.C. (which is where I grew up). I respect NYC for its background, and I think it's one of the world's great cities... but it's a perfect example of the see-saw effect that many cities have as they flip every 10 years from Republican to Democrat rule. You need only look at NYC's history to see every time they shift left... the city falls into disrepair and becomes a **** hole. Then some Republican gets in, like Lindsey or Giulliani, and the city gets restored.

Anyway, NYC needs this... they desperately need Mamdani, and when he wins, the people who voted for him will come to realize their mistake. Taxes will go up, money will be wasted on bureaucracy, and the entire city will decline all around them, as will crime. Make no mistake, it's not because I want to see NYC fail, but it's because people NEED to see NYC fail so at least the most left of left will get off their Socialism / Communism kick that they've been on for the past 10 years now.

I would imagine he'd likely get three endorsements from fellow Fiero Forum friends in this thread, including mine... haha.

Speaking of... I'm concerned about RayB. He had issues the other week and was in the hospital for two weeks. Now he's disappeared again. I hope he's just no longer interested in talking politics, and not that something else has happened.

Not so sure the city will 'bounce back' regardless who runs after it bottoms out. New York is a hollow shell of its former 'complicated' self. (and so am I- HAH!)

I think if people can recognize what led to the failure, it can then again turn around. We've seen this in New York at least two times in it's past history. You have a single Republican Mayor... and the city totally turns around... saw the building of the original World Trade Center, and the city was on fire (on a proverbial good way). Then it declined again... and then Giuliani was elected and turned everything around again... only then for ultra-liberals to basically destroy it again (mountains of trash all over the place, homeless people literally everywhere, filthy subways, **** on the sidewalks, etc.) and this will seal the deal.

I have a lot of friends who are very left-leaning... many of them have said in the past how much they like Bernie Sanders and think Socialism is A-OKAY...

There are many Democrats who feel that way... and they feel that way because they assume good (in their mind) will always triumph. The problem is that they don't understand the human condition, or how people are. Everyone is different, but inherently, humans share many behavioral characteristics. My wife told me that one of the trainings she would get when she used to manage stores (Express, Hot Topic, Limited Too, etc.) that more than 90% of people would steal if they could get away with it. Unfortunately, many people if given the opportunity, will just not work and be lazy if they can. Likewise, you create a system where you're effectively rewarded for doing nothing, and punished if you work even slightly... you're going to see a decline in revenue. This happens every time. There are a lot of well-intentioned people. I think most on the left are totally insane... but I do think even still... they believe in their hearts that they mean well... they just have a utopian idea of how society actually is.

E.G.:
- Every illegal is just looking for a better life.
- People who commit crimes are a victim of their environment, and therefore need a second, third, forth, fifth chance (no one cares about the victim)
- Welfare makes people happy, and they deserve it because they have fewer opportunities in life

... etc.

All of these things essentially lack an understanding of how most people are. I WISH, I really do wish people were like how most leftists believe humans are. The problem is, these left-leaning individuals don't "wake up" until they are directly affected by their own decisions. Democrat voters said unequivocally that Democrat politicians weren't for "open borders." Then, when we learned that the Democrat politicians actually were... the Democrat voters became OK with it. It wasn't until there was a huge increase in crime, identity fraud, car jackings, etc... directly affecting these voters, did they start to come around and vote for Trump (or just not vote at all due to their dissatisfaction with the Democrat party).

This needs to happen in NYC... they need to see what their vote will lead to... and then... they need to see what voting a Republican in will do for the city (again). They are unable to learn from history, so this cycle keeps happening.

When people don't learn from the numerous failures of socialism in history, then they deserve to experience it themselves.

OMG, this is so funny...

Apparently, a quarter of conservatives are voting for Mandami too! One of my friends sent it to me and said we were assholes, because he knows they're voting for it because they know he'll fail.

Those are really good videos, Doug. I wondered where John Stossel went. I used to be on Fox Business.
