are the speaker grilles supposed to appear blue? dont know if its sun fade, but the material itself is in great shape so i have to ask the question. it seems like that color is out of place in the interior

Like Old Joe said, they're faded.

My daughter tried a bunch of things, including dying them in a pan of black dye. Still didn't work. The only thing that worked was a fabric spray paint. You can see how it came out (and what she used) here:

thats really cool shes doing this stuff. i had my daughter years ago put together one of those old school tamiya R/c kits... the ones with the million parts . i think she developed a knack for the way things go together and how to use tools. shes just turning old enough for drivers ed in school , so hopefully she will take to working on her own ride one day.
i found those two products.. will give them a shot

Rodney Dickman still sells the near-OEM color cloth. I recovered mine closer to 15 years ago, have not seen any fade.

I took the grill cloth off the plastic grills, cut out most of the plastic slats and recovered them with audio cloth.

There is a noticeable difference in sound quality with good aftermarket equipment.

im running new aftermarket speakers , but with a newer factory CD head unit. so i wouldnt say the sound is audiophile quality... i will try the fabric paint first , if i dont like the way it turns out ill try the audio cloth

That would be good, but nowhere near audiophile quality.
Car audio has terrible distortion ratings compared to audiophile home equipment.

I used a black permanent marker on mine as a quick fix, and still looks good years later, car lives in a garage when not used.

Color Bond Interior paint. It is the best out there and a light coat of satin black works perfect and returns it to close the original color possible.

Color Bond is the best for any interior needs.
