Antenna snapped off and now to replace it. Getting the Antenna base removed is not difficult You just take off the10mm bolts to the fender along the top and push it out of the way, Hold it open with a block of wood. That exposes the base and the three 7 mm screws holding it.. When the antenna base is freed up it's extremely hard to get the wire to the radio out but there is a plug in that base. Twist/pull out the plug from the antenna wire and push it into the new base, . Screw new base in place with the three 7 MM screws. Put back the 10 millimeter bolts at the top of the fender a and you are done

Hey Dennis, my daughter has a small little antennae in place of the big tall one, which is actually kind of cool. But I remember about a decade or so ago, a bunch of people were incorporating the Corvette antennae in place of the stock one. It's an actuated one that, when the radio turns on, it powered the antennae and the whole thing lifts up... otherwise, the antenna would be down.

I always found this so much easier since you can't really put a car cover on a Fiero when it has an antennae on it.

Have you done this, or know anyone that has?

A popular mod is to install the entire antennae under the Fiero's front fender. With the fender being made of plastic, radio reception is not compromised.

Dennis, I applaud your short write up. My thought is to add one of those modern shark fin antennas. Never have to worry about a car wash breaking it off.

A power antenna is a lengthy installation. I like them but I have so much work to do on this car that the priority is getting it back on the road right now. The small screw in antenna is an easy solution but I just went stock for now.

The little shark fin antennas are not radio antennas, they are for satellite radio, GPS, cell signal, etc. on cars with those, the radio antenna is usually built into the rear window the same way as the rear defrost, or otherwise hidden, but they are still large/long, there's no way around having a certain length of metal to pick up certain radio frequencies, you can wind it around a central core which makes the overall length shorter, or just be a straight rod which appears longer, but it's still about the same length of metal, and you can only get that compressed/wound so tight before it stops being effective.

The behind the fender mount is a nice clean option. This guy filled the antenna hole solid.

Never been bothered by the look of the OEM Fiero antenna mast as its really 1980's looking just like the car.
I've been advised by some to just use the small coil universal antenna that mounts on a flat surface but out here in the sticks reception might be poor.
