have many done this? are there plugs available for the holes? whats the general consensus ... sometimes it looks killer

Some have used body filler and repainted the deck lid. I have used the plastic Christmas Tree plugs as a temporary sealer when I've had the spoiler off for any period of time. They seal very well and can be removed at will.

I suspect the general consensus, if you prefer the wingless look, is to replace the decklid with one that was never drilled for a wing. Obviously the downside of that, is first, finding such a decklid, and second, needing to paint it to match the rest of the car.

I myself feel the OEM wing installation makes the Fiero look somewhat dated. One option that eliminates the "hole" problem is to retain the wing but to use aftermarket stealth wing stands. They both lower and set the wing back further.

Somewhere along the line, a previous owner drilled the decklid and installed a bad aftermarket spoiler which more-or-less resembled the OEM wing, but it was in bad condition and since the mounting hole spacing was different, the holes weren't even in the right places. It was hard to seal them against leaks. Replacing it with an original wingless decklid (no holes) was the best thing I ever did.

My taste today says that the Fiero looks better without the spoiler but one of my Fieros still has one It doesn't do anything to help handling but it does reinforce the look of an 80's era performance car.
When I removed the spoiler on my ragtop I just chamfered the mounting holes used Bondo filler, sanded smooth and used primer. . its held for quite a few years.

Me personally, I know the spoiler is a bit largesse... but it also was on the whale tale Porsche 911 back in the same years. It's part of the charm of that generation of cars.
