Last time I spoke with CV Source in Buford, GA., they had a half dozen or so on the shelf. C.V. Source, Inc 3027 Summer Oak Place, Suite A -- Buford, Georgia 30518-0401. Phone: (800) 955-2953 -- Local (678) 889-4118 -- Fax: (678) 546-8692

They also make custom drive axles for engine/transmission swaps like 4t60 series transmissions.

This is for the 87 only.

RockAuto is out of stock on it. FieroStore used to carry them. All of a sudden they are no where...

For the '88 anyway, I have seen threads on here that show how to rebuild your own. New upper roller bearing, new lower ball bearing and seal, Rodney makes a nice passenger side rack bushing then a nice clean-out and re-grease. Maybe throw in new inner and outer tie rod ends and....rebuilt rack! Check out the threads. Great information.

The 84-87 racks are easily rebuilt with Rodney Dickmans bronze bushing, some grease , a careful assembly procedure that includes minor adjustment and indexing of the rack. Very occasionally the needle and ball bearing require replacement but haven't come across this as yet.

On the 87's just be sure to follow the repair manual procedure on the proper indexing of the rack to steering shaft position before installation. If the rack is not indexed the position your steering wheel will be way off when the tires point straight ahead. With the 88 rack you may be able to change the rack bushing without disassembing it.
