Hello all!

Yesterday I picked up an 88 Fiero Formula that had been sitting in a coworkers yard for over a decade untouched. I had a few problems right off the bat.

1.I was unable to get the steering column unlocked. I eventually gave up on this and removed the outer tie rod ends to be able to move the car. If any one has sugggestions or a How-To on removing the ignition switch I would appreciate it. I alreayd searched the forum but could not find anything.

2. I was unable to get the engine cover hood to open. The keyhole was missing from the latch assembly so I used a flat-head and broke the latch. I am not sure how that latch is setup in OEM becuase I would have assumed there would be a lever inside of the vehicle to open the engine compartment. I could not find one and after opening the latch it looks like is is not connected to anything.

3. I am unable to open the front hood. I found the lever and the back-up pullstring (pill) but after pulling on them the hood still would not open. Does anyone have any idea on how I can get the front hood open? I would rather not cut the latch out if I don't have to.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Thank You,

1. Buddy Craig has a YouTube video on taking the steering column down to the ignition switch--Buddy Craig also has a lot of other Fiero videos too

2. if the car doesn't have power trunk release then the only wire going to it would be the "ajar" switch--the connection is to the left of battery by firewall

3. this may sound stupid--the front decklid opens from the windshield side. see if you can get a helper to lift the decklid up while you pull the cable for the release

I hope any of this helps

I tried having a buddy help me opening the decklid. I think the latch is rusted closed or something. Pulling the release feels like there is too much slack int he line. Is there a way to get to the latch from underneath the car?

I should have a few of those rods laying around bent and sharpened if you're interested in one shoot me an email. I know they aren't hard to make but I figured people would rather have one already made lol.
