Ok so I have a 3.8 SC with a 4.10 4 speed. The 2nd gear is hard to get into at higher rpm so no 0-60 shiffting. . Would it be best to just go ahead and swap the 5 speed into it? Im not sure of the cost or work it would take Im not that mechanically adept. Your thoughts please.

If you like the 'sport' 4 speed, you may be less happy with the 5 speed for low-end acceleration. Chances are that you have a bad synchro on second gear, which can be fixed for less than a complete trans replacement. A good Getrag is not cheap.

So to have a 2nd gear synchro would not cost that much to have done at a shop? Im just trying to gauge finding another tranny that is in good condition or overhauling the 4 speed. The 4 speed has wild acceleration behind that 3.8 SC and I assume there wouldnt be that huge of a difference behind the 5 speed, also I wouldnt be riding down the road at 3000 rpm at 60 mph. Just trying to gauge before I start searching. It drives fine normal driving just hard acceleration.

Many transmission shops don't work on a manual trans any more....so it depends on who you can find. If you have a good old veteran rebuilder, it should be less than getting another transmission, but if you want that low RPM at 70 mph, the 5 speed is your choice.... A reliable one is probably in the $750 range.
