I signed up for email alerts from my favorite salvage yard and got one Wednesday about this car. I finally got over there yesterday. Sad to see it. It hadn't been tagged since 1999 and looks like it's been sitting under a tree all that time. Probably chewed up a timing gear or lost the fuel pump and the owner parked it. The yard probably paid him about $130 for it.

Aside from some surface rust it's very clean. A shame to see an '88 with so much potential go to the salvage. The yard crew crinkled the fuel tank when they picked it up with the forklift and I could smell the gas-turned-turpentine. And some Fiero-ignorant genius couldn't figure out how to open the hood and ripped it in half from the front by prying it off the hinges.

Sad.... That 88 front and rear suspension really, really should be saved!!

And a 5speed car too.. Damn..

I cannot believe there is no demand for a non-rusted 5spd '88 fiero.. Doesn't matter if it's in this condition or not.. Between those of us that want to replace a rotted or damaged spaceframe, upgrade to '88 specific parts, build a super modded '88 or for a kitcar, or simply drive a 4cly car that can get 30mpg with damn good looks and handling... I'm at a loss.. I never, ever part out an 88, unless all hope is lost..

Seen a few nice 88s lately; well, some maybe not so nice.

This is a Formula, although its not immediately obvious by the picture. It had been repainted red which was by now quite faded.

Here's a 5-speed 4-cylinder. This car was actually quite nice. I was looking for a new hardtop headliner board, and the one from this car was almost good enough to use without recovering. Maybe a 9 out of 10. I eventually recovered it with new fabric.

Here's what's left of an '88 GT. Heck, this one is probably still there.

That silver one looks good. So sad to see a car with so much potential being scrapped.
